In today's (7/6/10) Washington Post an article by Michael Leahy discusses the history of rancor in the House and Senate, including an incident (in 1850) where one Senator was beaten unconscious by another with a cane.
Back then, it was not uncommon for guns and knives to be carried in both the House and Senate. With the recent Supreme Court ruling, will it be long before someone revives that tradition?

The article profiles the role of the House historian, Fred Beuttler, who shares a few historical anecdotes and discusses precendents. It is a good article.

Voter Anger? Apathy? Angst? Great WashPost article
Chris Cilizza's article, "Anger doesn't tell whole story of 2010 election season," is a good piece in understanding the frustration of voters regardless of political persuasion.
This is a very good for understanding why there are so many of us angry, frustrated and confused as to why Congress doesn't start solving problems instead of blaming each other.
